Thank you all for your fantastic support and generosity! I’ve just now opened an account with the new web host (who I can recommend if you have a need of commercial hosting), so there’s no need for you all to rush to donate!

At the moment I’m attempting to negotiate a couple of days’ grace from the current (soon to be ex-) host to allow me to transfer the site across without any break (I had to register a new domain as a “holder” and it needs time to propogate) so will be taking regular backups of the database (where all the messages, user accounts and news posts are stored) so hopefully nothing is lost.

So, hopefully, this server will be up for a few more days, and then be transferred to the new host. Of course, future donations are always welcome for hosting, but I hope there’s no immediate danger of the site just disappearing off the face of the web.

Our current web host (who shall remain nameless for the moment[1]) is proving to be particularly unhelpful with a billing issue, and as such we shall not be renewing the account with them. They’ve “kindly” given me 1 day’s notice (exactly!) so I’m backing up everything that I can get my hands on, just in case.

We have found an alternative hosting company, who I’ve spoken to, and they are far more supportive and accommodating. However, they are slightly more expensive, but offer a far wider range of both features, disk space and bandwidth.

So, as this is still a labour of lurve (i.e. without official funding) and my Paypal account won’t be credited with a transfer for about a week, we’re left with either a) not having the WGW site until the money is transferred (I knew the pittance I received from the Insolvency Service today would come in handy somehow - fuck the overdue mortgage!) or b) you could donate a quid or two (or however much you want/can afford/have left over from those new shoes/coat/frock/WGW) to the hosting fund.

I know a lot of you will be skint after WGW, but any help would be most gratefully received.

As an added incentive (as if you needed one!) I’ve spent the last few weeks developing a new WGW site (which I had had planned to have ready for after the WGW but redundancy, some temp work and a new job have meant I can’t spend as much time on it) which has a shedload more features. It still needs some work, so as soon as we have a new host this site will be back up there (in the interim) before a transfer of all the data (we’re keeping the forums this time!) and the new site is published.

If not enough donations are received before the shit current host pulls the plug, then we’ll need to wait until my transfer clears, which is currently estimated as 9 days… :-/

I hate to beg, but any help would be wonderful (and probably good karma too!)
